Shack-a-thon!

Yesterday I came out of class and students were overtaking the quad. It was the yearly ‘Shack-a-thon,’ which is a philanthropy event for Habitat for Humanity. Basically the event entails groups from around campus who build shacks out of cardboard to support the efforts of Habitat forHumanity and try to raise money for the group. I think it mostly entails fraternities and sororities, but I saw some other groups out there too, like Student Senate and the Newman Center. Actually, I heard the Newman Center shack had managed to get electricity somehow and were playing Nintendo; I also saw a string of lights at the top of their shack as decoration. Pretty sophisticated stuff. Their shack was huge though! I’m pretty sure they had the biggest one. And one of my friends from Sigma Kappa I believe said that they somehow got a microwave in their shack and were planning on making popcorn later in the night. I thought that was pretty cool. So these groups built the shacks all day, and then stayed there all night. Not everyone stayed all night, but at least a few people from each shack did. Anyway, I think it’s cool that the groups on campus take their time to help a good cause like Habitat for Humanity. Nice job people! I have a few pictures of groups building their shacks yesterday afternoon. This was in the beginning so most of them are still pretty bare, but they’re gettin’ there! -Kristin :)
